Pete Webb
Principal
Give him a name; he’ll come up with the phone number. In addition to being “the boss”, Pete Webb, founder and principal of Webb PR, is a walking, talking telephone book.
Pete’s firm has won multiple Grand Gold Pick Awards for the top public relations work generated by a Colorado firm and he has also been named by the Denver Business Journal’s Power Book as one of the top ten business newsmakers in Denver’s media industry on multiple occasions.
Pete comes from strong media lineage – 13 years as an award-winning investigative television reporter in five major markets – a skill he learned from three years at the FBI. In 1982, he left the news business and joined the ranks of public relations as vice president of one of Denver’s most recognized PR firms. Six years later he opened his one-man office.
Today, Webb PR has a staff of eight and Pete’s responsibilities have expanded to include mentoring and managing a talented and motivated client services team, along with a handful of expert senior consultants. He still gets involved in strategy and planning for all his clients, and he has become known for his willingness to tackle tough assignments, such as labor negotiations, environmental spills, water rights, food safety issues, the introduction of gaming in Colorado and the debut of expanded gaming in July, 2009. He also spearheaded very successful communications strategy for the “Protect Pinnacol” legislative initiative at the Colorado statehouse during a recent and difficult assault on Pinnacol assets. He is a “disciple” of noted crisis communications expert Jim Lukaszewski, and a graduate of his corporate crisis management series. Webb has also been trained by FEMA in Integrated Emergency Management at its training facility in Emmitsburg, MD. in order to better counsel his crisis clients.
Pete has engineered strategy for large state contracts, such as the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the Colorado Lottery. He is particularly proud of the “Heat Is On” DUI enforcement campaign developed for CDOT. The award-winning program has been the most effective public education effort in Colorado history, increasing arrests and reducing DUI-related fatalities by 23% within the target audience.
Pete’s other success stories include creating the media strategy to open the Anheuser-Busch brewery in Fort Collins, launching Cricket Comfortable Wireless in Colorado, heading up the PENTAX USA team at the 2003 Consumer Electronics Show to become a “Best of Show” finalist and representation of Bill and Nancy Laurie during their bid for the Pepsi Center and the Denver sports teams package. Webb also represented the Lauries during their subsequent purchase of the St. Louis Blues, the Kiel Center and the Vancouver Grizzlies. His ability to herd cats came in handy during the firm’s management of media logistics during the opening of Denver International Airport, one of the largest public projects in the world, drawing international media.
Pete also believes in using his talents to serve the community, and spent three years as chair the board of South Metro Fire Rescue, and as President of the Special District Association of Colorado. Pete has spearheaded work in virtually every market nationwide. His amazingly wide-ranging communications talents – from marketing and crisis management to media training and public affairs – are reflected in his firm’s impressively broad client base.
Pete balances his full workload by tinkering with his antique fire engine on weekends and traveling to places that are warm.
